The casting distance you want to fish greatly influences the length you choose; the longer the cast, the longer the rod will need to be. A 9-foot rod is designed for fishing close to the bank, no deeper than 10 meters; 11- and 12-foot rods are versatile and therefore among the best-selling rods. 13- and 14-foot rods are ideal for long casts in large lakes or for river and sea fishing.
